Michael (Mike) Ackerman has held just about every role in nursing a nurse could hold including Candy Striper to Senior Director.  His entire career has been in the critical care arena from staff nurse, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner and most recently Senior Director of Nursing. He has a consulting business and is on a mission to “Stop the Silence” in Healthcare!  (His full credentials are impressive and too long for the title, but truth be told, it is Mike Ackerman, DNS, RN, APRN-BC, FCCM, FNAP, FAANP!)

Here’s a quote from his FB pageP8-64473:

“OK, so I am going to declare moving forward that the second Friday of every month is “Stop the Silence in Healthcare” Day. In honor of that day I would ask that everyone who has acquired a campaign button, wear the button and grab a selfie and share it on the group page. I would also ask that everyone engage in dialogue about their own culture and what it will take to improve or sustain a culture when silence in avoided. For those of you who post pics, I will decide on the best pic of the week and I will send you a FREE Crucial Conversations book. How about that! So it starts this Friday. Can’t wait to see the results. If you need a button, just PM me. Cheers……”

Mike reached out to me a few months ago and we had an inspiring conversation about how critical speaking up is and leadership’s role in creating safe cultures.  You know I love supporting individuals, ideas, organizations who are committed to these ideals.  And Mike is definitely on this path in many ways!

He has over 50 publications as well as several funded studies.  In addition he has held leadership roles in academia.  Mike has a passion for critical care nursing.  This is evident in his much sought after presentations on a variety of critical care topics in critical care.  He also has a passion for the “Crucial Conversations” program which he has implemented in two of his recent institutions.  This implementation has been a catalyst in much of Mike’s work in the area of culture change.  Mike is a skilled clinician, avid researcher, motivational speaker and caring leader.

After I publish this post I’m going to write a another post that I can share on his “Stop the Silence in Healthcare” FB page and not only that, I’m going to get one of his buttons!  You can too, just listen to his intro video and find out how!
