Good afternoon Beth. I am searching for information regarding the delegation in a psychiatric admissions department. It is a multidisciplinary dept. The department evaluates all folks that are referred or walk in for substance abuse and mental health treatment.
There is an RN, a mental health tech and a MS level assessment specialist. Each patient must see a RN. The RN is responsible for evaluating each patient as well as their own patients for a full mental health assessment.
My question is regarding is the RN in charge in this type of setting?

    • Hi Jade,
I would think that there may be some shared responsibility with the RN taking the lead for clinical/medical issues and the MS assessment would take the lead for mental health issues. My guess is that for a team who holds mutual respect for each other and are able to communicate respectfully, the best decisions for any given issue will emerge from this foundation and with the best interests of the patient in mind.

      Great question!

  2. Excellent work! I would like to get associated.

hello i’m a male nurse working in india. i have a query regarding the role of nurses in ward setup in overseas.
do nurses have to perform the role of LPN and nursing attendants during their absence? if we do perform their roles in emergency situations, are we violating the nursing code of ethics?.

HI Greg, Thanks for your interest! At the moment I am working on text book re: communication for nurses with F.A. Davis and I hope to get Medical Improv back on a front burner with ebook and workshops soonish. In the meantime, the second ‘train-the-trainer’ program is coming up this Spring. I’m not part of it, but know that it will be fabulous. Here’s a link about it:

Please stay in touch as there is more to come on this! 🙂 Beth
